CHILDREN AND YOUTH

Children’s Ministries

At MPC, it is our goal to make sure that kids get to know who Jesus is and how much he loves them, and in turn, understand how they can and should share that love with others. We also want them to discover what an amazing book the Bible is and have fun learning how it applies to their lives.

Weekly Activities

Sylvia childrens sermonChildren’s Message: During our 10:30 AM worship service, children are invited to come forward and hear a special message from our pastors, youth and children’s director and church members.

Sunday School: After the Children’s Message time, students are invited to Sunday School downstairs in our Sunday School classrooms. Our Sunday School is staffed by outstanding volunteers who are active members of our church. All volunteers are background-checked. Each class features a wonderful, interactive curriculum with activities designed to teach children life lessons from God’s Word and challenge them to live like Jesus and serve others.

We strive to provide a fun, safe, environment for kids to learn and grown in faith. During the school year we feature four classes: Preschool for children 3-5 yrs, Kindergarten through 2nd grade, Grades 3rd-5th and Junior High. During the summer we have a combined Sunday School Class for ages 4 years old through 5th grade.

On Communion Sundays, usually the first Sunday of the month, we combine the classes for a larger Sunday School party that includes games, art projects, memory challenges and more, with help from our youth group students. Then, we bring the kids upstairs to join their families for Communion at the end of the service. Participation in Communion is optional and up to parents to decide.

Monthly Activities

Good News Tues: On the third Tuesday of every month, kids 2nd – 5th grade are invited to a youth group just for them. We eat dinner together, create an art project, learn a Bible Lesson, and play games. It is an awesome night a lot like our Jr. high youth group, but just for elementary kids. Good News Tues also has activities like parties at Pump It Up, and a special annual sleepover at the church. We meet every third Tuesday from 6:00PM to 7:30 PM.

Youth Groups

Living our faith by serving God as we help others and have fun doing it.
We aren’t waiting for the world to change, we are trying to change it, and ourselves as well, with God’s help. God’s love is for everyone, so we are taking it to the world. Whether it’s by serving dinner at the Rescue Mission, passing out socks to the homeless, going on mission trips, helping our neighbors, being kind and decent to every person, we are going to spread the love!

Middle School — Thursdays from 7 PM to 8:30 PM.
Meet at the Open Door.

High School — Wednesdays from 7 PM to 9 PM. Meet at the Open Door.

You can also join us for dinner. Come at 6:00 PM and enjoy dinner as part of the all-church Wednesday at the Well. Please bring $3.00 if you plan to join us for dinner. Meet at the church.

Vacation Bible School

crafts-at-vbs-2016Our Vacation Bible School is a week-long, half-day camp for kids preschool through 5th grade. Through science, art, music, story and recreation stations, the kids have fun learning about God’s love for them and the Bible.

Our curriculum and activities are designed with a group of elementary school age children, so they are all kid inspired and approved and our program is unique to our church. We tend to focus on a group of animals for the week and see what their special attributes can show us about God.

In 2017, we looked at upsidedown animals. Next year, we will be exploring animals from Hawaii and what they can teach us about God’s love for us. Registration opens in February each year and fills up fast as we can only accept 100 students. Our program is run by fantastic, background-checked volunteers. When we finish VBS in Portland, we pack it all up and take it to Skagway, Alaska for a week.

If you would like more information about VBS, please contact the director of youth and children’s ministries, Heather Hellman, at the church office.

It is always a great week and we work throughout the year to make it the best possible experience for every kid!
